Deputy Prime Minister Obeegadoo announced that the national Vaccination Programme against COVID-19 will resume on Monday 15 March in an orderly and disciplined manner as elaborated by both the public and private sectors.

He was speaking at the daily press briefing of the National Communication Committee on COVID-19 at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
-Priority will be given to frontliners and to those already in possession of the Work Access Permit (WAP).
-The Vaccination Programme will be undertaken in an additional 14 vaccination centres which have been set up so as to cater for a maximum of persons.
– Government will come forward with another plan in April 2021 so as to enable more than 60% of the population to be vaccinated.
– Government’s priority is to prevent a second COVID-19 wave through the Vaccination Programme.

Local active cases reach 130

Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, highlighted that 130 local cases of COVID-19 have been registered since 05 March 2021, with five new cases detected since the past 24 hours.
– The patients are from the following clusters: Forest Side (51), Wootun (21), Curepipe (35), and Red Zone (23).
– A total of 1 802 PCR tests have been conducted including 384 tests carried out today.
– COVID-19 Testing Centres have been set up in hospitals where PCR tests can be done.
– The population to abide by strict sanitary measures and to take all the necessary precautions as the situation is still serious.
