-A total of 190 000 have already received the first dose of vaccine as at date, while today 4 051 persons were inoculated, including 396 medical staff, announced the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal.
-He was speaking, this evening, at the daily press briefing of the National Communication Committee on COVID-19, at the Treasury Building in Port Louis. Dr Catherine Gaud was also present.
-Since 05 March 2021 to date, the positive cases have been identified as follows: 353 cases through the contact tracing exercise and COVID testing centres; 41 in quarantine centres; and 13 through random testing. To date, a total of 98 patients were discharged and the number of active local cases stands at 305, while four deaths have been registered, including two from COVID-19.
-Positive cases identified in the last 24 hours include Bangladeshi workers.
-As at date, 1 920 persons are in quarantine centres. Some 2 141 PCR tests were carried out yesterday and results for 736 PCR tests have been received from the Candos laboratory showing no positive case.
-Dr Jagutpal recalled that this year, more than 60 000 PCR tests have been done, as compared to some 29 000 in 2020. He also recalled that additional medical staff are taking care of quarantined dialysis patients.
One patient from New ENT Hospital passes away
-Dr Gaud provided details about one male dialysis patient aged 72 years old who passed away yesterday at the New ENT Hospital. The patient reached the hospital with a septic shock, which is a life-threatening condition that happens when blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after an infection caused by bacteria. His general state was already altered since a few months back, with significant weight loss and loss of autonomy.
-The patient passed away from the septic shock and did not have either respiratory or digestive problems despite being positive to COVID-19.
-She also dwelt on two male patients still in severe conditions: one aged 75 years old who is currently intubated; and the other aged 69 years old and who is receiving oxygen.
-On another note, Dr Gaud announced that one patient at the New ENT Hospital gave birth to a boy today, after having been transferred from a private clinic as she was tested positive to COVID-19. Both mother and child are fine.
