COVID-19: Tyack, Rivière des Anguilles, St Aubin, Batimarais and Bénarès declared Red Zones

-Five villages in the South of the island, namely Tyack, Rivière des Anguilles, St Aubin, Batimarais and Bénarès, are declared as Red Zones, as two additional persons were tested positive to COVID-19 following a contact tracing exercise carried out due to the fact that a dialysis patient was again tested positive to the coronavirus. The contact tracing exercise carried out revealed that three family members of the dialysis patient were positive to COVID-19.

-The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, made this announcement, today, at the daily press briefing of the National Communication Committee on COVID-19, at the Treasury Building in Port Louis. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Mr Mukhtar Taujoo, was also present.

-With regards to the two persons tested positive to COVID-19, one person from St Aubin village was in direct contact with a member of the dialysis patient’s family. Another patient from the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, who undertook a PCR test in a Covid testing centre, was also tested positive to COVID-19. This person lives in Bénarès, and is a planter who also sells vegetables in the region of Batimarais.

-Same precautionary and sanitary measures will apply to these regions and a mass testing exercise will be carried out in these regions.

-The second phase of deconfinement is still ongoing as from tomorrow except for these five regions.

-Minister Jagutpal emphasised once again that sanitary and precautionary measures must still thoroughly be observed.

-DCP Taujoo outlined that road blocks will be set up in these regions, as well as at Union Ducray, so as to closely monitor the situation. Procedures have already started so as to mitigate the spread of the virus.

-Movement of persons in these five regions will be restricted and on alphabetical order. No public transport will operate, except to go through these regions so as to reach their destination. A diversion plan is also being worked out.

-With regards to exams, he pointed out that buses will still be available for students to go to their examination centres even if the latters are in the Red Zone.

-He appealed to the public’s cooperation so as to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
