The AMB normally puts on sale 275 tonnes onions on a weekly basis. Exceptionally, due to the current festive period, 680 tonnes onions were sold last week. The country is presently fully supplied with onions (red and yellow). We have noticed that dealers are carrying out panic buying and stock onions. No onions will be put on sale to dealers for the week 8th to 10th March 2021. The list of all DEALERS who have purchased onions last week will be submitted to authorities for necessary verifications.

Authorities will take severe sanctions against any dealers found hoarding onions illegally and practising retail selling prices above Rs 40/kg.

AMB will supply its usual quantity of onions as from 15th March 2021 based on each dealer’s usual purchasing quantity. Should you require further information on your normal purchases, please liaise with the Head of Stores, AMB on 10th March 2021.
